To consider the lengths we go to to find acne cures is to take us in the direction of the latest skin care efforts. I hate to have to report on what I just read about, but it all comes with the territory of researching skin care and acne cures and the like: there is a cosmetics firm in China (which sells to Europe) that is using dead skin to develop beauty products. Maybe this is not all that remarkable, but the company is using the skin of those who died by execution. The cosmetics firm reportedly uses the skin of “condemned convicts” who have been shot in their developing of products such as lip collagen treatments and wrinkle treatments. Some of their products have already been circulated, evidently, having been exported to England. When challenged, company heads respond that this practice is “traditional”, says a writer for LBN (Levine Breaking News). They also say that there is “nothing to ‘make such a big fuss about.’” But as the same writer tells it, there are ethical concerns for those developing and then for those using the products. As well, the reporter notes that there is “potential risk of infection” for those indulging in the “harvested” skin care products. Maybe the company and others like it have no qualms about ethics or health. Maybe the same have nothing to do with acne cures. Then again, maybe the offenders are ushering in the Soylent Green era, using the flesh of the dead for gain. Possibly, they are bringing on a new wave of illnesses or diseases. What concerns us should therefore be what goes into all our youth recouping, our beauty regimes, our acne cures. Yes, when we have the frustrating external flaws of acne—whether we are teens or twenty-somethings or pregnant mothers of stressed out fathers—we are inclined toward extreme solutions. We will go to great lengths to normalize, to clear up skin and fit in with the beautiful people, the unscathed, the oil-free. We will try the OTC (over-the-counter) acne cures, will resort to homemade acne cures, will suffer ourselves to the experimental acne cures of the innovations of science and medicine. Hell, when I was a teenager with insufferable zits galore, I succumbed to the “latest” acne cures, using strengths of Tetracycline that could cure twenty strep viruses at once, using lemons and vinegar and scrubs with sand in them (it felt like), and using what the doctor prescribed before it was fully tested: Retin-A, a solution we mixed with straight Vodka and burned away layers of dermis with. But I am concerned and curious as to what I would do today if someone offered me acne cures in a bottle or jar that had on its ingredients list an item too closely resembling the dead skin of a criminal’s ass. Okay, so we forego the ethics, and we let go of the “silly” fuss over health issues. What about the cosmic passing of an evil soul or an unjustly convicted, condemned, and executed woman or man by way of her or his skin through our pores?

Exercise During Pregnancy Safe for At-Risk Black Women, Study ...

Exercise during pregnancy appears to be safe even for African-American women at high risk for pregnancy complications, a new study suggests.

The study, which focused on poor, urban African-American women, found that “exercise participation did not increase or decrease the risk of low birth weight or preterm birth," said co-author Suezanne Orr, Ph.D.

“There is not much information about exercise participation in this population. Most of the research has been on middle-aged white women," said Orr, with the Department of Health Education and Promotion at East Carolina University, in Greenville, N.C.

The study, which appears in the current issue of the journal Ethnicity and Disease, looked at 922 low-income African-American women receiving prenatal care at five Baltimore clinics between 1993 and 1995.

Parenting Skills

Parenting skills Honestly, some people's parenting skills truly need some adjustments. I have witnessed so many things in public places that make me think that some people should be tested before they are allowed to reproduce. There are classes out there that teach basic parenting skills but not enough of people enroll in them. It is almost as if when you have a baby, they send you home from the hospital without the faintest clue as to what you are supposed to do with this child. Perhaps a manual should be written and given to parents when they leave the hospital. Anyone can be a parent but not everyone has the parenting skills required to raise a child. Many parents' parenting skills come from their own experiences in growing up. They pass down the same values and traditions that their parents instilled in them. I have had two young clients in my office who were both parents before the age of 18. Neither of these individuals had the first clue as to what kind of parenting skills they should have. Interestingly enough, both of those individuals had been born to young parents as well. Their young parents lacked the values, knowledge and parenting skills to raise their children as properly as they should have. One of those children had been primarily raised on the streets because their young parents could not have cared less what he was doing. It is a miracle he didn't end up in jail or dead. At the age of 16, a girl came to him to announce that she was pregnant. Suddenly, he was the one who was in need of some common sense and parenting skills. My other client gave birth when she was 17. Her mother didn't even know that she was pregnant and had no interest in helping to raise her grandchild when she had barely even cared to raise her own daughter. My client is now struggling to finish school and raise a child. While some parenting skills are merely common sense, some people truly lack that common sense. This holds true especially if they never had parental figures that demonstrated common sense for them. You've heard people say that children are a reflection of their parents and there is a great amount of truth to that. Parenting skills are the same way. A parent will reflect the parenting skills that their parents showed to them. Of course, this does not hold true for everyone. There are people who break out of the cycle and I have nothing but praise for them. What is ever so important is that before becoming a parent, make sure you have the common sense parenting skills that are needed to raise your child. Never be afraid to ask someone for advice or answers. Your child will thank you for it. So will the rest of the world.

Special Baby Gifts

My niece is pregnant with her first child. She and her husband have tried to get pregnant for several years, so they are very excited about getting their family started. I was invited to a baby shower. I knew that my niece had been doing a great deal of shopping for the baby already; so I wanted to purchase special baby gifts that she had not already purchased or seen. The department stores did not offer any special baby gifts; they had items that have been around for years. I mentioned to one of the sales clerks that I needed special baby gifts for my niece’s baby. She stated that the store did have a line of infant things that can be personalized with the baby’s name. This sounded intriguing to me so I asked to see what was available in this line of merchandise. The clerk had several items in stock that she was able to show me. She showed me bibs that were embroidered with the infants name on them. She showed me a baby blanket that was embroidered with not only the baby’s name, but the date of birth and weight and length at birth. Each of these special baby gifts needed to be special ordered and would be available in a week to ten days after the order was placed. The clerk also showed me several items in a catalog including diapers that were personalized with the baby’s name. I did like the unique aspects of these special baby gifts; however the shower was going to be held prior to the baby’s birth so I would not have the information that was needed to have the items personalized. I found a small store that was filled with special baby gifts. This store had many of the same things from the department store, but they have a local seamstress that will complete the personalization within a day. I decided to purchase several of the special baby gifts. I bought the baby blanket that could have the baby’s personal information embroidered on. I also bought a picture frame that had a place to engrave the baby’s name. The picture frame also had space to frame the birth certificate next to the baby’s photo. I had the clerk wrap the gifts and she included a card with the shops name and telephone number so that my niece could have the embroidery and engraving completed once the baby was named. The shop charges a flat rate for the embroidery and engraving, which I paid for at the time of purchase. My niece would not have to pay anything to complete the personalization. My niece was very happy with the special baby gifts. She knew where the shop was, but had not gone into it. We made plans that I would go with her during her maternity leave to have the special baby gifts finished off.

California Adoptions

It used to be that orphans or unwanted children had a really very hard time finding a parent to take care of them. They could languish for years and years in the system, going between foster care and foundling homes, without a parent to call them their own. But today, things are so much different than that. If you are pregnant and do not want the child, you should consider adoption in California as a possible alternative. I live here, and I can tell you that there are many many parents who would consider California adoptions as a way to raise one of their own. The reasons vary from person to person, and no two are alike, that is for sure. Some want California adoptions because they are infertile. Others believe that, with all of the unwanted children, there is no reason to bring another one into the world. Still others believe that, because of over population, getting California adoptions is just a much more ethical thing to do than having a new baby and adding one more person to our crowded planet. Whatever the reason, California adoptions are extremely popular. Of course, adoptions in California are not popular for any child. It is easy for anyone to love a pretty little newborn boy or girl, and for these young ones, the wait list for California adoptions is really really big. But with an older child, you have a different situation. Some of these kids have just been tossed around over and over for years upon endless years, from one parent who did not care to them, to the state, back to another parent. It is much harder for these kids to find California adoptions because, as you can imagine, some of them have quite serious problems. They may be disturbed, crazy, or even violent. They have a whole lot of trouble with forming any attachments at all because they are always moved around so much. They might keep you up all night crying. Say all that you want about the healing of love, but many parents are not up for California adoptions of these problem children, and it is a sad case. In California adoptions are not just needed for the healthy little babies with nothing wrong with them at all, but for the problem kids as well. California adoptions for these kids are really most needed, while for the others there is plenty of demand already.
