... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Nanny Positions
A look through the local job ads will uncover many jobs that are geared towards enriching the lives of children. Some of these ads are nanny positions. A nanny is someone who provides care services for children in either a child care center or a private home.
There are many different areas where these jobs exist. Nannies that work in private homes can be hired as either daily or live in nannies. Nanny positions that require daily work will expect the nanny to take care of the children, household chores and maybe some errands. Nanny positions can also involve being live-ins and they are usually expected to run the entire household. Some of their responsibilities include setting appointments, taking care of all the children’s needs like meals, bathing and recreation, running errands, cleaning the house, and the like.
Historically, someone who held this position was expected to be a fulltime caregiver to the children in the absence of the parent. Many affluent families exist where the parent conducts business from home, but is unable to provide the children with adequate attention and care. This is where the nanny comes in. These types of nanny positions require the nanny to get the children to and from school, prepare and serve all meals, help with homework, accompany the children to doctor and dentist appointments, as well as chaperoning for the children’s extra curricular activities.
There are many over seas families who are looking for people to fill these positions residing in the United States. This is a wonderful opportunity for those nannies that wish to travel and be exposed to a foreign country. These nanny positions are known to pay quite well, and offer a variety of perks. On the other hand, there are families living within the United States who prefer to hire nannies from outside the U.S. as they believe this affords their children the opportunity for exposure to another culture, as well as a foreign language. They will normally contact an agency in another country to fill these types of nanny positions.
Some families only need someone on a seasonal basis, when they require the services of a nanny to go on month’s long vacations. Others hire nannies for a lifetime; often choosing them while the mother is still pregnant. These nanny positions last until the children are grown and set out to make lives on their own.
When choosing a nanny it is important to conduct background checks, reference checks, as well as in depth interviews with the candidates. Entrusting the care of your children to someone is a matter that should not be taken lightly. By choosing wisely, you will be able to hire a nanny that will have your children’s best interest at heart.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Aromatherapy in Pregnancy
Aromatherapy, or the uses of scents from various natural plant extracts, has been used for centuries in meditation, healing, healthcare, beauty and relaxation. The essential oils are the fragrant essences derived from flowers, leaves, barks, roots and berries. Each essential oil has its own therapeutic properties. Nowadays, aromatherapists, who are individuals essentially trained in how to combine and administer these essential oils, have emerged as complementary healers to the more traditional forms of allopathic medicine.
The appeal of aromatherapy transcends cultures and continents, chiefly because it has proven to work. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used aromatherapy in a wide range of uses – from embalming the dead to treating military soldiers injured in battle. Aromatherapy can be used to treat a wide range of ailments including first aid, stress related diseases and skin problems. Oils can be placed in aromatic baths, used in compresses, or mixed in creams, lotions or waters to help with the health of the skin.
The various uses of aromatherapy in England and the US however, have been quite recent. Over the last decade, aromatherapy has become increasingly popular among the general public, used primarily in beauty and bath care for personal uses. Lavender, tea tree oil, clove, cinnamon, and other oils have been marketed for mass appeal for their healing and relaxation properties. These have been greatly diluted so that an individual will not become sensitive to an undiluted essence.
Self-treatment with aromatherapy, however, should be exercised with caution. Properly used, essential oils are safe, but some oils present hazards that anyone using them should be aware of. I have purchased a number of oils off the shelves, only to find after further reading that these are hazardous and toxic in significantly small doses. There are no warning labels on aromatherapy oils, and if a service provider decides to sell them, people are free to buy and use them as they see fit. Babies, pregnant mothers and older adults need to be especially careful if they come in contact with essential oils.
A properly trained aromatherapist will look beyond merely the application of essential oils, and will strive to treat the whole person to help achieve balance. As essential oils work on a subtle level, the multitude of healing properties they offer differ from synthetic drugs in this respect. They are not tailored to treat a specific symptom, but strive to rectify any imbalance in the body and promote better health and well-being. Aromatherapy has been likened to the Chinese idea of Yin and Yang- a harmonizing balance that exists with opposing energies. When balance is achieved, the person is in a state of health.
I have used aromatherapy for over ten years, and have found the positive effects noteworthy. Primarily I have used oils to treat fatigue, combat stress and promote relaxation. When I travel, I often seek out essential oils that have been distilled in the country I am visiting, for these are usually of a purer and less expensive nature than ones that have been imported into the West. In Morocco, I have bought pure oils of jasmine, rose and neroli, some of the most expensive oils known. In Madagascar, I have bought ylang-ylang, clove, cinnamon, and other local oils that have excellent anti-viral and anti-bacterial oils that are perfect during travelling. Buying, experimenting and learning about aromatherapy oils are part of the enjoyment, and discovering their numerous health benefits through use is part of the reward.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Early Signs of Pregnancy
It’s a good idea to keep a look out for the early signs of pregnancy if you are trying for a baby. Its very important to see a doctor and begin a regiment of prenatal care as early in your pregnancy as possible, so the sooner you become aware of it the better. Even if you aren’t trying for one, no birth control is totally effective and so it’s a good idea to be familiar with some early signs of pregnancy just in case.
Probably the most well known early sign of pregnancy is a missed menstrual cycle. A late period for most women is their first sign that they might be pregnant, yet there are actually some early signs of pregnancy that can occur even before then. One early symptom of pregnancy that can occur even just a week or two after conception is the dreaded ‘morning sickness’. While morning sickness does indeed often occur in the morning, it can happen at anytime throughout the day, and can be persistent. Many women report having had morning sickness symptoms up to two weeks before the expected period was missed.
Another common early sign of pregnancy that can occur shortly after conception is tender and swelling breasts. Breasts often become tender before a normal menstrual cycle, but swelling and tingling sensations in addition to tenderness is a strong indicator of pregnancy. Finally, fatigue is another early indicator, especially if other early signs of pregnancy are present as well.
It’s a good idea to keep in mind that many women don’t experience any of these early signs of pregnancy at all and do not realize they are pregnant until well after their expected menstrual cycle was missed. Other women begin experiencing symptoms almost immediately after conception. The types and intensity of symptoms women experience varies from woman to woman, and can vary from pregnancy to pregnancy within the same woman as well.
Many women may experience some combination of early signs of pregnancy and not be pregnant at all. All of the symptoms discussed above can occur due to stress, sickness, hormone imbalances, diet, birth control pills or other medications, or pretty much anything else that throws your body a little out of whack. If you suspect you could be pregnant, its always a good idea to take a pregnancy test and see a doctor just to be on the safe side.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Prenatal Vitamins
Pre-natal vitamins are an extremely important part of health care during a pregnancy. While they don’t guarantee that you’re baby will be 100 percent healthy, pre-natal vitamins significantly decrease the chances of defects and generally promote big healthy babies. Any health care professional that you see during a pregnancy will practically shove pre-natal vitamins down your throat, as they all know how much of a difference they can make.
Life is a pretty amazing thing, and the process of life development within a womb is beautifully intricate and complicated. Unfortunately, this means that there are a lot of things that can go wrong as well, especially if you are deficient in certain vitamins or minerals. While being just mildly deficient in some vitamins and minerals normally doesn’t have a very drastic consequence, when you’re pregnant such mild deficiencies can have significant effects on your child, which is why health care professionals always recommend pre-natal vitamins.
The good news is that it’s really easy to make sure you aren’t deficient in any vitamins or minerals during your pregnancy. First of all, listen to your cravings. If you are pregnant or ever have been pregnant, you know what I’m referring to. If you find yourself with an insurmountable desire to eat a hamburger, then eat a hamburger. During pregnancy, your body is many times more sensitive to its needs than normal, and what you crave in your diet is a direct reflection of what you need.
As a sort of back up measure, take pre-natal vitamins daily to ensure that you’re not missing out on things your body doesn’t even know how to crave. When all you have to do is take a pill once or twice a day to ensure that your baby is getting what it needs, there is really no argument against taking pre-natal vitamins. If they make you queasy, take them on a full stomach. If you are prone to forgetting, set an alarm on your cell phone to go off daily.
If you think you may be pregnant you should see a doctor as soon as possible, and while you’re there ask him or her about pre-natal vitamins. He or she will probably have some good pre-natal vitamins to recommend, and can help further explain why its so important that you take them. The time between conception and birth is the time for laying a strong and healthy foundation for your child to grow from. A strong healthy baby is much more likely to be healthy throughout life.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Large Clothing
Maternity wear is often over-priced and many mothers-to-be opt to buy large clothing rather than clothes made specifically for pregnancy. For some reason, once an item has the “maternity” label attached to it, it becomes pricy. Buying regular clothes in larger sizes is a good alternative for some thrifty ladies.
The hunt for the clothes can be tricky. Finding large clothing is not difficult but finding large clothing that looks good can be a challenge. There are certain things to look for when trying to dress your pregnant self.
First of all, some clothes have to be designed as maternity wear in order for them to look right. There is no getting around it. You have to invest in nice maternity pants. There are many cute and comfortable maternity pants and very cute maternity jeans available. Buying large clothing does not come into play when it comes to your pants.
Your underwear is another story. You can easily get away with buying large clothing when it comes to undergarments. Choose panties that fit under your baby belly and larger sized bras.
Many nursing mothers insist on buying nursing bras. Don’t bother. Most of the nursing bras have no support and they are not always easy to unfasten. I have found nice bras in stores that carry large clothing that provide much more support than regular nursing bras. I also didn’t have to fuss with the difficult clasps that are supposed to make things easier.
Women automatically think that they need to find the right maternity shirts but you can really get away with buying big shirts instead. My favorite shirt that I wore throughout my pregnancy was not a maternity shirt at all. I found it among large clothing in a discount store at a fraction of the price.
I also found my husband’s large clothing to be very helpful. I had a winter pregnancy which really helped my search. I found oversized sweaters and big button down shirts in our closet. My husband didn’t really miss them and I had comfortable outfits to wear around the house.
When you are expecting, you want to invest in a few good pairs of maternity pants. The rest of your wardrobe can consist of large clothing. This includes your hospital robe. Nothing is more annoying and more uncomfortable than maternity night gowns. Look for sleepwear in large clothing sections of your favorite store.
