... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Acne Cures During Pregnancy
To consider the lengths we go to to find acne cures is to take us in the direction of the latest skin care efforts. I hate to have to report on what I just read about, but it all comes with the territory of researching skin care and acne cures and the like: there is a cosmetics firm in China (which sells to Europe) that is using dead skin to develop beauty products. Maybe this is not all that remarkable, but the company is using the skin of those who died by execution. The cosmetics firm reportedly uses the skin of “condemned convicts” who have been shot in their developing of products such as lip collagen treatments and wrinkle treatments.
Some of their products have already been circulated, evidently, having been exported to England. When challenged, company heads respond that this practice is “traditional”, says a writer for LBN (Levine Breaking News). They also say that there is “nothing to ‘make such a big fuss about.’” But as the same writer tells it, there are ethical concerns for those developing and then for those using the products. As well, the reporter notes that there is “potential risk of infection” for those indulging in the “harvested” skin care products.
Maybe the company and others like it have no qualms about ethics or health. Maybe the same have nothing to do with acne cures. Then again, maybe the offenders are ushering in the Soylent Green era, using the flesh of the dead for gain. Possibly, they are bringing on a new wave of illnesses or diseases. What concerns us should therefore be what goes into all our youth recouping, our beauty regimes, our acne cures.
Yes, when we have the frustrating external flaws of acne—whether we are teens or twenty-somethings or pregnant mothers of stressed out fathers—we are inclined toward extreme solutions. We will go to great lengths to normalize, to clear up skin and fit in with the beautiful people, the unscathed, the oil-free. We will try the OTC (over-the-counter) acne cures, will resort to homemade acne cures, will suffer ourselves to the experimental acne cures of the innovations of science and medicine. Hell, when I was a teenager with insufferable zits galore, I succumbed to the “latest” acne cures, using strengths of Tetracycline that could cure twenty strep viruses at once, using lemons and vinegar and scrubs with sand in them (it felt like), and using what the doctor prescribed before it was fully tested: Retin-A, a solution we mixed with straight Vodka and burned away layers of dermis with.
But I am concerned and curious as to what I would do today if someone offered me acne cures in a bottle or jar that had on its ingredients list an item too closely resembling the dead skin of a criminal’s ass. Okay, so we forego the ethics, and we let go of the “silly” fuss over health issues. What about the cosmic passing of an evil soul or an unjustly convicted, condemned, and executed woman or man by way of her or his skin through our pores?

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Baby Picture Frames
Baby picture frames are very important items for any family who has children. Of course parents love to show off their little ones as much as possible and the right framing can make the difference between a good snapshot and a photographic masterpiece. There are tons of options when it comes to finding the right frame for the little tykes but one brand stands out.
Images by Ellen offers unique baby picture frames that are designed especially for baby’s first picture. By first picture, I mean the infant’s sonogram or ultrasound image that most parents receive during a checkup when the mother is about eighteen months pregnant. This is truly the infant’s first picture.
I loved the ultrasound images of my daughter. She was very active and the nurse suggested that we get a lot of sleep while we could. Our daughter squirmed around so much that the nurse had great opportunity to catch some really cute images of her while she was rolling around.
One of the images appeared to be a snapshot of our daughter waving to us. This is my absolute favorite of the ultrasound images and I wanted to frame it. Unfortunately, I looked through a vast number of baby picture frames to no avail. None were the right size or shape to suit our baby’s very first snapshots.
I decided to let my friend, the Internet, intervene and I was not disappointed. In no time at all I found Images by Ellyn. This company produces baby picture frames designed specifically for ultrasound images. After just a few clicks and one tough decision, I was on my way to receiving a keepsake that I will treasure always.
The baby picture frames are constructed of wood. They are durable and they suit any décor. The sonogram image is protected by a special backing and a glass surface on the face of the image and the opening of the frame is the perfect size for a sonogram image. You don’t need to crop or enlarge the ultrasound print to accommodate these baby picture frames.
The only thing that was difficult about the task was deciding which words to choose for the item. There are a number of sentimental statements that are available for the baby picture frames. The little note of sentiment is the perfect touch for the keepsake. I will always cherish my baby’s very first photo.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Pre-natal Vitamins Information
Prenatal Vitamins
The importance of prenatal vitamins for pregnant women has been a hot topic for quite some time. Women are now encouraged to take them before getting pregnant to prevent birth defects, as well as throughout the pregnancy and breastfeeding to ensure a healthy baby. Prenatal vitamins are a supplement to the diet and should not be substituted for healthy food choices. There are many over the counter prenatal vitamins available in addition to those prescribed by a physician. Absorption rates can vary between over the counter brands, or there may be too much or too little of an essential vitamin or mineral. The prenatal vitamins prescribed by physicians are usually of better quality and have greater absorption rates. All types of insurance plans cover most prenatal vitamins so that they are affordable and accessible to women.
At the first prenatal visit, prenatal vitamins should be prescribed if the woman has not already started taking them. There are many different vitamins available and the health care provider can recommend which prenatal vitamins are appropriate. Side effects such as nausea are common, and can be alleviated by taking with food, and not on an empty stomach. If the vitamin can still not be tolerated, the physician can prescribe another in its place. It is an important part of prenatal care a woman should adhere to on a consistent basis, an easy step to help prevent nutritional deficiencies and neural tube defects, such as spina bifida and anencephaly. In a recent study, the March of Dimes found that only two-thirds of women aged 18-45 were getting an adequate amount of folic acid during pregnancy. There is not enough folic acid in fortified foods, making it difficult for pregnant women to get sufficient folic acid from their diets alone. The average prenatal vitamin contains the recommended 400 mcg of folic acid, and when taken daily is the easiest step toward preventing neural tube defects.
Additional calcium is important as well. According to established nutritional guidelines, the average woman requires 1200 mg per day, and when pregnant, this amount increases to 1500 mg per day. The amount of calcium in a daily prenatal vitamin is not sufficient, which is why the diet must be supplemented with other forms, such as milk, cheese, yogurt, and green leafy vegetables to name a few. Folic acid is another important nutrient during pregnancy, and is most often contained in the prenatal vitamin in a sufficient dose. Of course, if there is a history of folic acid deficiency, a higher dose would be required. Too much vitamin A can also be detrimental, which is why the use of prenatal vitamins and diet should be discussed with the prenatal health care provider.
If a woman is considering pregnancy, she should consult her obstetrician or midwife to discuss diet, general health, stress, and others factors to be considered. Prenatal vitamins are an important part of a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, and should not be left out of the discussion. The importance of taking a daily prenatal vitamin cannot be stressed enough, its your baby's future.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Henna Design in Pregnancy
Henna design is often thought of as a safe and temporary alternative to tattooing. Unless removed through long and painful procedures, tattoos are permanent skin decorations. Those who wish to have body art for a special occasion or perhaps want to experiment without branding themselves permanently often turn to henna design.
But this type of body art is much more than a temporary way to participate in the tattoo revival that has occurred in recent years. Body enhancement using henna design has been around for years. In fact, it has played and continues to be a part of various customs and ceremonies in many cultures throughout the world. In some cultures, henna has also historically been applied for spiritual or healing purposes.
Some say the use of henna originated in India, while others claim that it began in The Middle East or North Africa. Tattooing of the hands and feet with henna as part of spiritual or death rituals has been fairly commonplace in many cultures. In many areas, henna design is used as a body decoration for brides, newly engaged individuals and pregnant women, just to name a few. It has been much more than a way of body enhancement in many regions.
One of the reasons it has played such a heavy part in the spiriAtuality and celebrations of many cultures is that henna is not only very safe to the skin, but actually contains soothing, cooling and healing properties.
Essentially a form of temporary tattooing, it is done without piercing the skin. Henna dyes the skin when it is applied, so it is obviously much less painful than permanent tattooing. A henna design can last on the skin for a time period ranging from as few as three to as many as eight or more days, depending on the thickness of the skin where the henna is applied.
Because it is temporary, painless, artistic, and steeped in cultural traditions, henna design has enjoyed a recent revival in popular culture. Many celebrities have experimented with it, and it has gained popularity with Westerners of all ages. Many opt for the traditional art of mehndi, or the henna tattooing of the hands and feet. But henna design can be found in as many styles and varieties as other types of tattoos.
For some, the practice holds deep cultural and religious significance. For others, it is a safe, fun and creative way to experiment with self-expression through body modification. Unlike many other cultural traditions, henna design shows no signs of fading into history, but is in fact likely to become even more common.

... ~~~~~~~~~~~~Patchwork Quilt
My grandmother and mother are both quilters. I love looking at the works of art that each have created over the years. My sister and I decided that we would like to learn how to quilt to keep this tradition alive in the family. Our mother makes very elaborate appliqué quilts. We knew that we did not want to start with something that complicated. We went to a fabric store together to find quilting patterns for beginners. The sales clerk suggested that we start with a patchwork quilt. This would be less difficult and also less expensive.
A patchwork quilt consists on different fabrics cut into pieces and sewed together to create the quilt top. A coordinating solid or print fabric is used for the back of the quilt and a batting is placed in between. The top and back are then quilted together through hand sewing with thread, or by tying knots through all the layers with pieces of yarn. That process is known as tying a quilt.
Each patchwork quilt is different because the quilter decides if each piece of fabric will be the same size and shape and also how to arrange the pieces. The clerk suggested using the same size squares of each fabric and to alternate the fabrics to create a sequence in the colors. As people get more involved in quilting they can create designs and patterns in the patchwork quilt by the placement of the colored fabrics. I decided that I would make the patchwork quilt for the bed in our guest room. I wanted jewel tones for this room. I chose three solid colors and three coordinating patterns. I found a striped fabric that featured all of the colors to use for the back of the patchwork quilt. My sister’s daughter is pregnant so she decided to make a baby quilt. She bought pastel colored solids and prints that had animals on them.
I like the look of hand stitched quilts so I new that I wanted to quilt my patchwork quilt by hand. I did not want to attempt an elaborate pattern for my first project so I decided to cut my different fabrics in six inch squares. Once I cut out my squares I arranged the squares alternating solids and patterns. I sewed the squares together and then pinned the top, bottom and filling together. With chalk I placed as X in each square. I then hand stitched the outline of the square and the X. I used an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric taunt while I sewed. I then used a solid color binding to complete the edging. My first patchwork quilt is not perfect, but I enjoyed doing the project and look forward to making another one.
