C Section

C-section In many instances, there is a significant chance that during childbirth a woman will deliver by C-section, or Cesarean section, which is a surgical incision made in the abdomen and then into the uterus to deliver the baby or babies. Circumstances vary greatly and can be quite different with each pregnancy, and vary from woman to woman. Each woman’s individual medical and reproductive history is taken into consideration during the prenatal period, and is continuously evaluated throughout the pregnancy by the obstetrician. If warranted, a C-section will be scheduled to take place before actual labor begins, though this doesn’t necessarily mean that a woman won’t go into labor spontaneously before her scheduled delivery date. A history of certain medical conditions may require a C-section When the baby, mother, or both are in distress, a C-section is the fastest way to deliver the baby without further complications. Developmental abnormalities or fetal anomalies require delivery by C-section, as do breech or transverse fetal positions. Other indicators for a C-section delivery are irregular or decreased fetal heart tones, prolonged labor or labor that has failed to progress, a very large baby, baby unable to pass through mother’s hips, prolapsed umbilical cord, separation of the placenta from the wall of the uterus (placenta abruption), blockage of the birth canal by the placenta (placenta previa), or maternal illness, such as chronic medical conditions, pregnancy-related conditions (pre-eclampsia), HIV infection, or active genital herpes. A C-section is usually performed under regional anesthesia, allowing the mother to be awake and witness the birth of the baby. However, some types of emergency situations may require general anesthesia putting the mother completely asleep. Despite the fact that a C-section is major surgery, it is relatively safe and has a low rate of complications. There is still a certain level of risk involved, as with any surgical procedure; bleeding and infection, injury to the bladder or urinary tract, or even injury to the baby could occur. Prenatal classes are offered to expectant mothers and their significant others, and cover everything from vaginal delivery versus C-section, to how to select a car seat and bathe the baby. Even if a C-section delivery is not anticipated, physicians should discuss it with their patients prior to labor and delivery, to lessen their anxiety and promote a positive birth experience in the event a surgical birth is required. The expectant mother needs to feel comfortable with her prenatal care provider and trust in the level of care that is provided, and in the recommendations made to ensure that the pregnancy results in a happy healthy baby.

Zoloft Side Effects

Don't use Zoloft During Pregnancy! Zoloft, also known as sertraline, is an antidepressant that is in the group of antidepressants known selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs. Zoloft is used to treat a variety of psychological disorders including, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual disphoric disorder (PMDD). These disorders are caused by chemical imbalances within the brain, and Zoloft as well as other antidepressants in this class work to regulate the imbalance to alleviate symptoms. As with other antidepressants, side effects of Zoloft cannot be ruled out and are different in each individual patient. Patients are encouraged to consult their prescribing physician or psychiatrist if new symptoms appear, if they become worse, or if suicidal thoughts occur at any time during treatment, which occur more often in patients under the age of 18. Since the signs and symptoms of many psychological disorders overlap, patients may be diagnosed with more than one mental illness, therefore the same precautions should be observed whether the patient has major depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, or any other psychological disorder. For most antidepressants in this class, the patient will not start experiencing relief from symptoms until after at least one week of therapy at the earliest. The average length of time varies, but is usually two to three weeks, and in some patients may take longer. Of course, if symptoms do not subside, possibly a dose adjustment may be in order. According to various online references, some patients have experienced various Zoloft side effects during treatment including insomnia, agitation, panic attacks, restlessness, fatigue, impulsivity, and mania. Other symptoms may include dizziness, dry mouth, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or urinary retention. Zoloft should not be taken if alcoholic beverages have been consumed either. The patient should wait and take the next dose the following morning. This medication should always be taken with food or milk as well, not on an empty stomach. Patients should also avoid driving or other activities requiring alertness until they have taken it long enough to know how they react to the drug. Another possible side effect of Zoloft is weight gain, which is common in some patients, as is decreased appetite in others. Zoloft should also not be taken if you are pregnant, lactating, have liver or kidney disease, or have a history of seizures or heart attack. Patients should also not abruptly stop taking this medication without being instructed by their physician or psychiatrist. Debilitating symptoms may return or become worse, which could put the patient back to square one in their treatment.

Nanny Positions

A look through the local job ads will uncover many jobs that are geared towards enriching the lives of children. Some of these ads are nanny positions. A nanny is someone who provides care services for children in either a child care center or a private home. There are many different areas where these jobs exist. Nannies that work in private homes can be hired as either daily or live in nannies. Nanny positions that require daily work will expect the nanny to take care of the children, household chores and maybe some errands. Nanny positions can also involve being live-ins and they are usually expected to run the entire household. Some of their responsibilities include setting appointments, taking care of all the children’s needs like meals, bathing and recreation, running errands, cleaning the house, and the like. Historically, someone who held this position was expected to be a fulltime caregiver to the children in the absence of the parent. Many affluent families exist where the parent conducts business from home, but is unable to provide the children with adequate attention and care. This is where the nanny comes in. These types of nanny positions require the nanny to get the children to and from school, prepare and serve all meals, help with homework, accompany the children to doctor and dentist appointments, as well as chaperoning for the children’s extra curricular activities. There are many over seas families who are looking for people to fill these positions residing in the United States. This is a wonderful opportunity for those nannies that wish to travel and be exposed to a foreign country. These nanny positions are known to pay quite well, and offer a variety of perks. On the other hand, there are families living within the United States who prefer to hire nannies from outside the U.S. as they believe this affords their children the opportunity for exposure to another culture, as well as a foreign language. They will normally contact an agency in another country to fill these types of nanny positions. Some families only need someone on a seasonal basis, when they require the services of a nanny to go on month’s long vacations. Others hire nannies for a lifetime; often choosing them while the mother is still pregnant. These nanny positions last until the children are grown and set out to make lives on their own. When choosing a nanny it is important to conduct background checks, reference checks, as well as in depth interviews with the candidates. Entrusting the care of your children to someone is a matter that should not be taken lightly. By choosing wisely, you will be able to hire a nanny that will have your children’s best interest at heart.

Prevent Acne Problems in Pregnancy

We have all heard that prevention is the best medicine and this idea holds true even for people who are plagued with acne. This simple approach is wonderful in concept, but the difficulty lies in finding out how to prevent acne. What steps do we take to keep from finding those annoying blemishes from appearing when we can’t take medication? My sister has been having horrendous breakouts lately. Her adult acne is so bad that her entire face is covered in blemishes. The marks on her face lead her to consult her doctor about the possible causes of acne as well as ways to prevent acne breakouts in the future. I watched my niece while my sister went to her appointment, hoping that there was a solution to her problem. When my sister arrived home, she looked wide-eyed and a little pale. She said that the doctor told her that the cause of acne in her case was bacteria. Unfortunately, she said that there was no way to treat the bacterial infection right now even though a simple antibiotic could prevent acne in this case. This didn’t make sense to me at first, then my sister added, “With me being pregnant and all.” This good news wasn’t dampened a bit by the inability to prevent acne breakouts but it did pose a challenge. The doctor suggested that my sister stay away from harsh soaps, especially antibacterial soaps. This came as a big surprise because one would think that an antibacterial soap would prevent acne that was caused by bacteria. It turns out that the opposite is true. When we use harsh soaps that kill bacteria, we often make ourselves vulnerable to pimples because we kill good bacteria that battle the bad. Yes, there is a war going on and our skin is at stake. The doctor suggested that my sister’s best approach to prevent acne would be to use a very gentle cleanser and to only cleanse twice a day. My sister was washing her face every chance she got. It has only been two weeks since her visit to the doctor. My sister’s complexion is not crystal clear and it probably won’t be until she is able to treat the acne with medication. However, she is able to prevent acne from getting the best of her. She uses a gentle cleanser twice a day and she thinks about her new baby. A little adult acne is such a small price to pay.

Baby Time Capsule

Anyone who has children will tell you that time slips away so quickly that it will make your head spin. One minute you have an infant and the next minute you are getting ready for your child’s first day in school. With one precious moment sweeping past after another you want to capture as many memories along the way. A baby time capsule can help you keep a collection of items that will evoke wonderful memories for you and your child. Many of us rely on our memories way too much. I kept a baby time capsule for my daughter during her first year of life. There were some objects that I collected while I was pregnant and others I collected during the first 12 months after her birth. One item I wanted to add to the baby time capture was a cute little ducky outfit. When I opened the baby time capsule I was surprised by how many things I had forgotten in so little time. My daughter just hit her 18th month when I opened the memory box and I had already started to get sentimental over the items I had collected. There were many items I had completely forgotten about as well. The amazing thing is that I often wonder how on earth I could forget about her favorite ball or her favorite hat. These items that were placed in the baby time capsule held such value for us when they were being used. How could these things be forgotten so easily so quickly? After the experience of forgetting about some of the sentimental items found in the relatively new baby time capsule I decided that I would take the process one step further. I have my daughter’s baby time capsule from her first year but I also have a few notes added to the objects to make the memories stronger. I also thought that this would be a great way to share the memories of our daughter’s first year after she is married and ready to start a family of her own. We are going to save her baby time capsule to open when she is carrying her first child. This will be a great thing to share during her baby shower. Creating the baby time capsule has been a pure joy for me and my husband. One day we will share the memories with our daughter on a very special occasion. At the rate moments are buzzing by that special occasion may come sooner than we think.
