Pregnancy Test

I still remember the day my wife found out that she was pregnant. We were returning home from a movie (coincidentally a movie about kids!) when on an impulse, my wife decided to purchase a home pregnancy test kit. We had been trying to start a family for quite some time and it was sheer coincidence that she chose that day to buy and use the pregnancy test kit. We came home, she went into the rest room to administer the test and we both sat and watched with glee as the two lines (indicating a positive test) materialized on the stick. The pregnancy test had worked, and confirmed her pregnancy and we would soon have our baby! But we wanted to be doubly sure and decided to read up on pregnancy tests. We were especially concerned about how accurate the results of such self administered tests were and whether these pregnancy tests were reliable at all. The information we found as comprehensive. Basically there are two kinds of pregnancy tests. First, there is the blood test (which cannot be done at home; you need the services of a healthcare facility or a trained healthcare services provider to get the results from this sort of a pregnancy test). The next, the one we had used, is the urine based home pregnancy test, which can be done in the safety and security of your home. In order to administer this test, the female places the test stick (or container in some cases) in her urine stream. Some variations of this pregnancy test may call for a few droplets of urine to be dropped into the test container. There is a short waiting period, and viola! The pregnancy (or the lack of it) is instantly revealed. The pregnancy test is able to do this because it seeks out a special hormone (the human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG) that the woman produces during her pregnancy. If the hormone is present in the urine stream, the woman is pregnant and the test is positive. If there is no discernable presence of the hormone, the woman is not pregnant and the test is negative. However, it so happens that if the pregnancy test is carried out very early, the body would not have started production of the hormone. Hence, at least two tests, spaced over a couple of weeks are advisable. Although most home pregnancy tests are considered to be at least 97% to 99% accurate, there are a number of things that can interfere with their results. Since pregnancy tests work by looking for signs of the pregnancy hormone, any drug that has sizable quantities of this hormone will vary the results of the pregnancy test. In such cases, you will have what is commonly known as a ‘false positive test’. This means that the pregnancy test will show you as being pregnant, although you are not. But there is still an element of surety attached to a negative test. Because even if you are using drugs that contain the pregnancy hormone (to treat cases like infertility) a negative test means no pregnancy. Most other over the counter drugs, antibiotics and even alcohol or other stimulants will not have any impact on the test results of a pregnancy test.

Temporary Health Insurance

Today, most businesses offer their employees some kind of option for permanent health insurance. Unfortunately, employees are often required to have worked for a company for a number of months, even years, before they are eligible to receive such benefits. Even when they are eligible, the insurance plans themselves often take some time to activate. Additionally, a lot of people find themselves moving from one company to another these days, quitting or being laid off long before their eligibility for benefits rolls around. For this reason, many people today rely on temporary health insurance to provide their needed coverage during these in between periods. To find temporary health insurance, you should contact a medical insurance agent. It is helpful to know how long you will be without insurance ahead of time so you can tell the agent exactly how long you'll need your temporary plan for. The premium on a temporary health insurance plan is often much higher than normal, though asking for a higher deductible is one way to help offset this. Make sure you carefully read over the details of the plan before you sign anything, often times temporary coverage has a long list of 'exclusions' that may render the plan ineffective for your needs. It is also very important that you keep tract of all medical receipts, records, and transactions so that you can file any claims you make more effectively. Unlike more permanent plans, temporary health insurance usually allows you to see any doctor, or go to any clinic or hospital for treatment. However, temporary plans rarely will cover preexisting conditions, or health costs related to pregnancy and childbirth. Many short term insurance plans do not cover prescriptions, but offer such coverage at an additional fee. Because of the high cost of medication, and their wide spread use to treat a variety of conditions, it is usually recommended to pay any extra costs to have them covered. Though they have their drawbacks, temporary health insurance plans are the only ways to ensure your coverage during periods in which your permanent plan is inactive. Short-term programs can include coverage for your spouse and dependents, and can usually be extended without very much hassle if needed. If you have recently lost medical coverage, or are waiting for new medical coverage to begin, it is recommended that you sign up for a temporary health insurance plan as soon as possible.

Baby Time Capsule

Anyone who has children will tell you that time slips away so quickly that it will make your head spin. One minute you have an infant and the next minute you are getting ready for your child’s first day in school. With one precious moment sweeping past after another you want to capture as many memories along the way. A baby time capsule can help you keep a collection of items that will evoke wonderful memories for you and your child. Many of us rely on our memories way too much. I kept a baby time capsule for my daughter during her first year of life. There were some objects that I collected while I was pregnant and others I collected during the first 12 months after her birth. One item I wanted to add to the baby time capture was a cute little ducky outfit. When I opened the baby time capsule I was surprised by how many things I had forgotten in so little time. My daughter just hit her 18th month when I opened the memory box and I had already started to get sentimental over the items I had collected. There were many items I had completely forgotten about as well. The amazing thing is that I often wonder how on earth I could forget about her favorite ball or her favorite hat. These items that were placed in the baby time capsule held such value for us when they were being used. How could these things be forgotten so easily so quickly? After the experience of forgetting about some of the sentimental items found in the relatively new baby time capsule I decided that I would take the process one step further. I have my daughter’s baby time capsule from her first year but I also have a few notes added to the objects to make the memories stronger. I also thought that this would be a great way to share the memories of our daughter’s first year after she is married and ready to start a family of her own. We are going to save her baby time capsule to open when she is carrying her first child. This will be a great thing to share during her baby shower. Creating the baby time capsule has been a pure joy for me and my husband. One day we will share the memories with our daughter on a very special occasion. At the rate moments are buzzing by that special occasion may come sooner than we think.
